Eenmaal weer buiten het zaaltje kom ik terecht in een mensenmassa die één kant opdromt, ik hoor veel Amerikaans-Engels, het blijkt dat president-elect Donald Trump (van de Trumpertino's) in een grote, goud gespoten tent, net buiten het paleis, een redevoering gaat houden. Ik laat me meedrijven, maar bij de ingang wordt uitvoerig gecontroleerd: alleen Amerikanen mogen naar binnen, ik ben dan weliswaar geen Amerikaan maar heb wel een social security number en dat blijkt voldoende. Even later klinkt - ietwat voorbarig, maar dat zijn we van Trump inmiddels wel gewend - "Hail tot the chief" en Trump betreedt het met veel Amerikaanse vlaggen versierde podium.
"Folks, let me start out with a question: will you please undo yourself from all your non-American clothing?"
Binnen de kortste keren staat het overgrote deel van het publiek - gelukkig in een goed verwarmde tent - naakt voor zijn toekomstig leider.
"I will change that, believe you me, you don't have to suffer wearing cheap imports: the American clothing industry will be restored folks, you will stand in American socks on American soil, you will stand in American socks on American soil, believe you me, I will take care of that and I will reinstate slavery to begin in South Carolina, I will make America great again folks, you have suffered enough, believe you me, I will concentrate all the illegal and non-illegal Mexicans in New-Mexico, so we will be on our own again in the rest of the USA, believe you me, I will concentrate those Mexicans folks and I will start steam locomotive production again in Ohio, and there will be starting July 4th special gas stations all over the USA, for those who drive German cars like Beemers and Benzes in stead of American cars, believe you me, the price of gas in those stations will be ten times as high as in real American gas stations for real American cars, believe you me. I will take care of that, I will make America great again folks, there will roll hundreds of thousands spinning wheels off the assembly lines in the Dakotas, I will see to that, believe you me, hundreds of thousands of spinning wheels and in South Bend, Indiana there will be a thriving covered wagon industry again folks, believe you me, America will be great again, I will see to that."
Met een brede armzwaai verlaat Trump het podium.
