Één van de eerste sigarettendoosjes die ik me kan herinneren is dat van Player's (zonder dat "Made in U.S.A. trouwens): de Canadezen die Drachten bevrijdden rookten het merk, ik heb me nooit afgevraagd of er naast "navy cut" ook "army cut" bestond, wel weet ik dat de verpakking later op onverantwoorde wijze is herzien, zodat de zeeman nauwelijks meer zichtbaar was. Ook Player's stopte autoplaatjes in de doosjes en natuurlijk was er ook daar een Austin 7: de Ruby Saloon van 1934.
Achter op het plaatje stond de volgende tekst:
"The Austin Seven is now faster and more comfortable than ever. This Ruby Saloon has wide doors, sliding roof, and spare wheel and luggage-carrier in compartment at rear. It has a maximum speed of 50 m.p.h. and a cruising speed of 35-40 m.p.h. The four-cylinder engine is of 56 mm. bore, 76 mm. stroke and 747.5 c.c. capacity; the R.A.C. rating is 7.8 h.p. and the annual tax £6. The chassis has a 6 ft. 9in. wheelbase, a 3ft. 4 in. track (front), 3 ft. 7 in. track (rear), and a 5-gallon petrol tank at rear. The gear-bx has four speeds, with synchromesh changes. The car is prices at £125."
