"1924 Austin (Great Britain) Herbert Austin introduced the cheap baby car to Britain with his Seven of 1922, conceived as a civilised substitute for the motorcycle combination. I could transport two adults and two children at 45 mph, thanks to 747cc, 4-cylinder side-valve engine. The 4-wheel brakes were of uncoupled type and not very effective. The Seven , however, soon became a best-seller at £165; nearly 300.000 were made during a run of 16 years. It was also made under licence in France, Germany, and the U.S.A."
